WHAT WE DO

The Democratic Club of St. Mary’s County is the social club for the Party in the county. (The St. Mary’s County Democratic Central Committee is the official, elected group representing the Party in the county.) The purpose of the Club is to:

Serve as an independent political social club which supports the principles of the local, state, and national Democratic Party, functioning solely at the direction of its own members-in-good-standing;
Promote awareness, engage in educational outreach, provide public forums, and disseminate information concerning the principles of the party, public policy, and information about candidates for office; and
Encourage citizens to engage and participate in the local, state, and national electoral processes.

Meet the Board

President

Julia Nichols

Julia (she/her) has lived in St. Mary’s County since 1997 and has served the community through her work on multiple boards. She is a librarian by training and has used her organizational skills to lead and strengthen local groups. Julia served on the board of the MOMS Club of St. Mary’s County and served on the boards and helped found the Chesapeake Public Charter School and the Southern Maryland Youth Orchestra and Choir.

In 2016, Julia joined Together We Will and helped lead this group of activists. In January of 2017, she organized 5 buses to travel from Southern Maryland to the Women’s March in DC. And in 2017-2018, Julia ran for State Delegate in district 29C.

Currently, Julia is President of the Democratic Club of St. Mary’s County and associate member of the SMCDCC, President of the St. Mary’s County Arts Council, Vice President of COSMIC Symphony, Secretary for the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter and Treasurer for the Southern Maryland Group.

Vice President

Brandon Russell

Brandon (he/him) is a community organizer, advocate, and lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English, and has 15 years experience in operations management and analytics. Brandon previously served on the St. Mary’s County Democratic Central Committee, and the Maryland Democratic Party’s Rural County Committee and LGBTQ+ Diversity Leadership Council. He was an At-Large Member of the Policy Committee for the Moore/Miller Administration's transition team.

Brandon is currently the 2nd Vice President of the St. Mary’s County Democratic Club, and Vice-Chair of Pride Southern Maryland, a volunteer non-profit that hosts an annual LGBTQIA+ pride celebration. He also represents Southern Maryland as a Commissioner on the Maryland Commission on LGBTQIA+ Affairs.

Kaitlin Fraer

Born in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, Kaitlin Fraer (she/her) is passionate about strengthening communities through food, education, and advocacy. As a Food Services Coordinator with St. Mary’s County Public Schools, she works to ensure every child has access to nutritious, appealing meals and builds partnerships between farms, schools, and local organizations to support programs like Farm to School.

Kaitlin serves as Vice President of PFLAG Southern Maryland, where she advocates for inclusion and equity for the LGBTQIA+ community in Southern Maryland and facilitates peer-to-peer support groups. She also serves as the Education Chair for the Maryland School Nutrition Association, where she creates professional development opportunities for school foodservice staff throughout the state. In addition, Kaitlin is a former member of the St. Mary’s County Democratic Central Committee and continues to champion civic engagement and public service with her service as a member of the St. Mary's County Agriculture, Seafood, and Forestry Board as well as a Vice President with the St. Mary's County Democratic Club.

Secretary

Anne Marie Dailey

Anne Marie Dailey is a native Marylander. Born and raised in rural Western Maryland, she lived in Baltimore City for 15 years before making St. Mary’s County her permanent home in 2003. Anne Marie attended Frostburg State University and University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy. She practiced pharmacy for 20 years before becoming a stay-at-home mother.

Anne Marie served on the Chesapeake Public Charter School Alliance Board for seven years, including six years as treasurer, overseeing the financials of the school during the purchase of the building in which it resides.

Anne Marie was treasurer for Julia Nichol’s 2018 campaign for state delegate, 29C and has served as treasurer for Brian Crosby’s campaign for state delegate, 29B since November of 2021. She is currently serving as secretary of the Democratic Club of St. Mary’s and as an associate member of the St. Mary’s Democratic Central Committee.
